SAVOR Excerpt: Savor (The Empire Chronicles #4) Alyssa Rose Ivy Excerpt “I’m glad you don’t want me dead.” He smirked. Even his smirk was sexy. “I’d be on my own if you were.” I put my hands behind my head. “And you don’t like being alone?” He studied me in the darkness. Sometimes I wished neither of us had night vision. It left you so naked, never having an opportunity to hide. “I do most of the time.” “But not always?” His eyes raked over my body. The fact that he could make such a platonic conversation feel sexual gave me even more reason to resist him. “Why does it matter?” Often the best way to avoid a question is to ask your own. “It matters because I asked it.” And there went his mouth again. My annoyance gave me back my will power. “Put a shirt on.” “Why?” He grinned. “Am I distracting you?” “No, but we should go. The sun will be up soon enough.” “Maybe I shouldn’t go with you.” He sat up, swinging his legs off the side of the bed. “No way.” I moved to standing. “You’re not backing out.” “Why do you care?” He stood with his back to me. “You can do this alone.” “Of course I can.” He turned to me. “Then why does it matter if I go my own way?” He pulled on his t-shirt, and a little part of me missed the view. “Because we agreed to help each other out. I stick to my promises.” That was one of my good traits. The not so good traits weren’t worth reflecting on. “Maybe I don’t.” “You do.” I put a hand on my hip. I didn’t have time for Jared’s games. “How do you know?” “I just do.” “You’re infuriating.” I groaned. “And what are you?” “Charming.” If I’d had liquid in my mouth I would have spit it out. “Not exactly the word I’d use to describe you.” “Says the girl begging me to stay with her.” “I never begged.” I crossed my arms over my chest. “Would you beg?” His grin was his undoing. “Is that how you like it, Jared? With your women begging?” “I wasn’t talking about how I like my women.” “Are you sure about that?” I grabbed my backpack and headed into the cabin’s small bathroom. “Where are you going?” I paused with my hand on the door. “To shower.”   About SAVOR: Jared is Vera's perfect man—until he opens his mouth. An incredible body and set of wings can only go so far when everything he says seems designed to make her mad. Still, she can't deny her intense attraction or the fact that he is the closest thing she has to a friend. Jared doesn't go for bear shifters, especially ones that are related to his ex, but he can't resist Vera's charm or the way she understands him better than anyone else. As suspicions build and loyalties are tested, Vera and Jared realize that they may not be able to trust anyone but each other.

Just friends.

We’re just friends.
No, really. She’s just my best friend...

Arizona Turner has been my best friend since fourth grade, even when we “hated” each other. We’ve been there for one another through first kisses, first “times,” and we’ve been each other’s constant when good relationships turned bad. (We even went to colleges that were minutes away from each other…)
Throughout the years, and despite what anyone says, we’ve never crossed the line.
Never thought about it.
Never wanted to.
Until one night changed everything.
At least, it should’ve...

Just friends.
We’re just friends.
I’m only saying this until I figure out if she’s still “just” my best friend…

Fall For Me by J.C. Emery **Release Day Launch& Excerpt**

Melanie Kincaid is a trust-fund baby with a knack for sassy comebacks and unnecessarily complicating her privileged life. So, of course she would have to fall in love with a man she can't have.

Jameson Hayes is a NYC firefighter for Manhattan’s oldest ladder company with big shoes to fill and a city to protect. He’s strong, sexy, and not looking for the complications Melanie brings. But he can't stay away from her either. The attraction between them is immediate and the pull between them is crazy powerful. But she's only home for the summer and long-distance relationships never work.

Unfortunately, Melanie’s beauty and smart mouth are a lethal combination and Jameson isn't the only Hayes who's interested. As if his brother isn't enough to compete with, now the city's most famous arsonist wants to claim her as his next prize. Jameson can't stand to watch Melanie get hurt and she can't seem to keep herself out of trouble.

Fall for Me is the first Ladder Company novel, a stand-alone companion series about New York's most elite firefighting family with hot alpha heroes, snarky heroines, and an arsonist hell-bent on destruction.

“Mom!” I move through the foyer and into the open great room— a large, open living/kitchen combo— where I leave my suitcase and kick off my flats before I hit the carpet. What the hell is she doing with gas? That stuff is toxic.

“Well?” Mom says, appearing at the edge of the hall on the other side of the kitchen. She has a hand towel around her neck and one of her many yoga-specific exercise outfits on. This one is a light blue and she’s barefoot. Monica Kincaid is dedicated to many things in life— her husband Christian, her daughters (the youngest, especially), and her charity projects— but yoga is the one out of all of it that I don’t understand. It puts her at peace, she says.

“Well?” I ask and drape the dress bag over the island counter top in the kitchen and move around to prop myself up on one of the bar stools. God, that gasoline smell is driving me mad.

“Are we planning a spring wedding yet or what?” Mom says with a grin. Her nose wrinkles, catching the scent of the gasoline, I’m sure. “Janet and I have been taking bets.”

“God, Mom,” I say and place my head in my hands.

“No really,” she says, “Tell me.”

“Nothing happened,” I say. Verbalizing it is even more disappointing than it probably should be. Apparently, Mom and Dad were also in on Jameson and Royal’s surprise trip. It took all of an hour after they landed for Janet Hayes to text me telling me she wishes she could have been there. It was sweet, but then she suggested she needed to leave me alone so I could spend as much time as possible with Jameson. And that we shouldn’t be disturbed. While the level of investment our mothers have in our has-yet-to-happen relationship is borderline creepy, the support is pretty awesome. It’s a rarity to find a woman as kind and loving as Janet Hayes is. Even if she doesn’t really know appropriate boundaries and likes to talk about when her sons were starting puberty… in all the gory details. I know more about Jameson’s solo activities when he was a kid more than I care to.

“You must be joking,” she says and heads to the fridge where she pulls out a single-serve cup of yogurt. “That man flew down to that god-awful place—,”

As a child, JC was fascinated by things that went bump in the night. As they say, some things never change. Now, as an adult, she divides her time between the sexy law men, mythical creatures, and kick-ass heroines that live inside her head and pursuing her bachelor's degree in English. JC is a San Francisco Bay Area native, but has also called both Texas and Louisiana home. These days she rocks her flip flops year round in Northern California and can't imagine a climate more beautiful.

JC writes adult, new adult, and young adult fiction. She dabbles in many different genres including science fiction, horror, chick lit, and murder mysteries, yet she is most enthralled by supernatural stories-- and everything has at least a splash of romance.

Forsaken (Daughters of the Sea, #1) by Kristen Day

Once you’ve been touched by darkness, it never leaves you…

Abandoned by her parents as an infant; seventeen year old Hannah spent her childhood wading through countless foster families until being adopted by the Whitmans three years ago.

Unfortunately, Atlanta’s high society wasn’t quite ready for Hannah…or the strange events that plague her.
Chilling visions of murder, unexplained hallucinations, and a dark, mysterious guy who haunts her nightmares all culminate to set in motion a journey of self-discovery that will challenge everything she’s ever believed; not to mention her sanity.

Sent to live at The House of Lorelei on Bald Head Island, NC for ‘kids like her’, Hannah quickly realizes things are not what they seem. Her fellow ‘disturbed’ teens are actually the descendents of mythical Sea Gods and Goddesses. And so is she.

But when Finn, the ghost from her dreams, appears in the flesh; her nightmares become reality and her dark visions begin coming true. Inexplicably drawn to him, she can’t deny the dangerous hold he has on her heart. The deadly secrets he harbors will ultimately test her courage and push the boundaries of her love.

She must decide if she is ready to embrace the ancient legend she is prophesied to be a part of. The fate of all the descendents will forever depend upon it.

3.5 Aquamarine stars

I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Even though it was cheesy as hell, it reminded me both of twilight & harry potter series, I don't care because I used to love reading these books when I was younger and I have no shame in that.

I'm not sure if everyone would have enjoyed that book. I guess it depends on the person and the mood and what are you into. For example for me the hero was perfect. I like sexy, dark, mysterious heroes. He was all that and so much more. You know we girls like this moto:

Back to the plot:

Hannah was a girl who had never met her real parents. She had been a foster kid, changing houses and not having the best experience with them. She always felt different and she couldn't fit. A little rebel who recently started having nightmares, blacking out and living her dreams quite vividly. In her dreams there's always a guy with dark hair and blue eyes.

After a blacking out her current mother takes her to a doctor and she suggests to her to go to a boarding school for people like her. The very same day Hannah joins House of Lorelei, but decides that since this is a start-over , picks a different name for her to be called. A name that she had been listening at her dreams: Anastasia.

There she finds out that everyone has abilities and they're all descendants from sea gods and goddesses. They seperate in four Orders: Sirens, Tritons, Sons of Daimon and Tydes. Anastasia [Stasia] and her roomates are all Tydes, but Stasia's revelations don't stop there. In her new school she finds the mysterious boy from her dreams, Finn. Her friends tell her to stay away from him, because he's cursed.

Soon enough she realizes that her abilities don't stop there. She has abilities that none of her friends do and Finn is the only who knows about them. There's also mystery with a murder and a legend may give the answers to every question. The ending gave chills to my body and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

"Once you’ve been touched by darkness,

it never leaves you…"

I like stories that have to do with mythology. Maybe because I'm greek or maybe because I always loved that particular subject. Anyhow, I enjoyed this book and the characters. Loved the friendship between the girls, the mystery of Finn & the character development of the heroine. I would recommend this book to people who love fantasy, mythology and PNR.

PS: The Ball was my favorite part of the book. Can't help loving the cheesy lines and cheesy scenes. Shoot me! ;)

Twisted Bond by Emma Hart **Cover Reveal**

I’m an Italian-Texan woman in a family full of cops. I’m passionate and shoot before I think. You only f*ck with me if you’re stupid.

Photograph cheating spouses. Hand over the evidence. Cash my check.
That was my plan when I returned home to Holly Woods, Texas, and became a private investigator.
Finding the dead body in my dumpster? Yeah… Given the choice, I think I would have opted out of that little discovery, especially since all three of my brothers are cops. And my Italian grandmother is sure the reason I’m single is because of my job.
Of course, my connection to the victim is entirely coincidental. Until I’m hired by her husband to investigate her murder and shoved bang-smack into the path of Detective Drake Nash.
My nemesis, a persistent pain in my ass, and one hell of a sexy son of a bitch.
Shame he still holds a grudge from that time I shot him in the foot twelve years ago, or we could have something. In another life.
So now all I have to do is avoid my nonna’s blind dates, try not to blackmail my brothers into giving me confidential police files, and absolutely do not point my gun at Drake Nash. Or kiss him. Or jump his bones.

All while I hunt down the killer.
Sounds totally simple—until a second body proves that sometimes things that start as coincidences don’t always end up that way…

(Twisted Bond is book one of the Holly Woods Files series and while it does not end in a cliffhanger, it is not a standalone.)

“Get out!” I yell, my voice hoarse.

“I’m sorry?” Drake recoils.

“Get out. Of my building,” I add, moving toward him as he walks backward. “If you don’t have a warrant in your ass pocket, get the fuck out. Now.”

He grabs my wrist and pulls me into him. “Listen to me, cupcake. Someone got real lucky last night, and that someone was you. You weren’t here when your killer wanted you to be. Yeah, I said yours. They know you’re waitin’ for ‘em. Most nights you’d be here, right? But last night, because I pissed your ass off, you weren’t. Know what that tells me?”

“I’m sure you’re gonna tell me,” I manage through gritted teeth.

“It tells me this killer is watching you. You ain’t safe. They’re waiting to strike, and it’s gonna be the second you’re alone. We’re close. I can feel it. You’re their target now. And this killer? They want to kill you.”

“No shit,” I whisper, looking away from him. “I won’t back down. I don’t care what you say. They can try and kill me. I’ve dealt with worse.”

“Stop being a pain in my ass.” He grabs my chin and forces me to look into his eyes and all their devastatingly icy glory. “Someone. Wants. To. Kill. You.”

“I know.”

“Yet you don’t care.”

“I care,” I whisper, holding his gaze. “But did you ever think that I’m your best bet at catching this person? If they’re watching me, if they want to kill me, they’re there. Waitin’, like you said. And that means they’re gonna come to me. Not you. Not anyone else. Me.”

“Yeah, I thought it. But I don’t like it.”

“Ain’t your job to like it, Detective. It’s your job to deal with it.”

“You’re right. It ain’t my job to like it, but I ain’t exactly dealing with it either.”

“What the hell does that mean?”

“It means,” he leans in, his touch relaxing just a smidge, “It means that I don’t like it. I’m not dealin’ with it. And the thought of you bein’ in the kinda danger you are scares the ever-lovin’ fuckin’ shit out of me.”

Carter and Arizona had been best friends since fourth grade. They exchanged notes , hateful at first, friendly afterwards. They stood for each other and had each other's backs. Holding on a friendship for so long without anything sexual going between them, many wondered how they managed to hold such a friendship for so many years.

They claim that they feel like brother and sister but suddenly one day things change and the line is being crossed. But can they really pretend that it didn't happen and keep the friendship that they were holding onto all these years or things are about to change? And what happens when Arizona decides to follow her dreams? How is this going to change things between them?

"How the boy with itchy hair and gangly height from fourth grade had grown into the dominant and sexy man sitting next to me, I'd never know..."

God, I loved this book so much!! Even if I found a few flaws in the way, I totally dismissed them because I enjoyed reading this story so much that I devoured it in just a few hours.

Flashbacks from their early years, showing to us how their relationship developed since fourth grade, how they were always there for each other, how they never thought the possibility that what they had was special.

I love friends to lovers stories and sadly rarely I find good ones. This was one of my favorite friends to lovers stories and I can't express how cute and sweet and sexy at the same time this book was! I even laughed out loud a couple of times! (view spoiler) I think you should experience it to know what I'm talking about.

Flynn & Aria Roberts have had plenty of ups and downs during their seven year marriage. Everyone warned them not to wed so young - that they'd be missing out on the key years when people grow from young adults to mature individuals.

The only thing holding them
together now is their
love for each other,
and even that is becoming questionable.
To save the marriage, and the family they've already started, Flynn and Aria come up with an unconventional solution to help them find what's missing in their relationship.

The only problem is doing so involves rediscovering themselves completely, even if it requires them to be unfaithful.
Can a marriage survive
when vows are broken, or will chance encounters prove they've been missing out all-along?

Fulfill your
deepest Desires
Give in to Temptation

While still a blubbering mess, I picked up the phone and dialed Flynn’s number. I needed to hear his voice.
He sounded groggy. “Hello?”
“It’s me.” My voice was low to hide my emotions.
“Are you crying?”
It was easier to lie. “No, I’m fine.”
“Aria, you can’t hide that from me. Tell me what’s wrong.”
“There is something wrong with me, Flynn. I’m confused all the time. I keep making one bad decision after another. Maybe I deserve to be alone. Maybe you should have left a long time ago.”
“I stayed because I love you. I might have a shitty way of showing it, but I’ve love you for as long as I can remember. That’s never going to change, even if we’re not together.”
I sobbed on my end of the phone. It was so clear that Flynn was tired of my head games. “I’m so sorry for my part in this.”
“I deserved most of it I suppose. It’s not like I’m perfect. I made mistakes I wish I could take back; mistakes that hurt you beyond belief. I’d do anything to erase the things from your memory, though we both know it’s not possible. I keep thinking about everything, wondering the exact moment when everything went to shit. I talk to Dr. Ellis about this yesterday. She said…”
“Wait. What did you say? You talked to Dr. Ellis yesterday? Was it over the phone?” It was the weekend. She didn’t have office hours. Were my fears about them being together confirmed?
“No, I saw her. She was at the same place I was staying. She showed up yesterday and we went out to dinner.”
I couldn’t hear anymore of this. “I thought we were having a good conversation. I thought it was progress. The truth is you’re never going to change. This call was a mistake, but at least it’s proven you can never be trusted.”
“Aria, wait…”

I hung up and turned my phone off so he couldn’t call me back. Determined to leave the house before he could show up and tell me more lies, I started getting ready for the big event. Now more than  ever I wanted to rid myself of the hole he’d left in my heart. I was going to go through with my plans, and even guilt wasn’t going to stop me.

The Consequence of Loving Colton (Consequence #1) by Rachel Van Dyken

My name is Milo Caro and I have a confession to make.

I’ve been in love with Colton Mathews since I was five. He should have known that sharing a cookie with a sugar obsessed little monster would do the trick–it sealed his fate. So really, the fact that he’s sporting a black eye, a limp, almost got ran over by a car, and was nearly responsible for another person’s death? Right. HIs fault. Not mine.

I made a pact with myself–this weekend would be different. I’d come home for my brothers wedding, smile, and Colton would naturally melt into my arms, we’d get married have five kids, live in a house by the river, and get a dog named scratch (clearly I’ve thought this through).

What really happened? I punched my brother in the face, Colton kissed me and apologized, I lied about having a boyfriend, oh and everyone wants to meet the mystery man.

They say laughter always comes before insanity–ha, ha. All I wanted was my brother’s best friend…instead I’m sitting in prison.

Let this be a lesson to you all…life rarely happens the way you want it to.

Damn cookie.

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

"Because the little boy who had slain all my dragons when I was little- had grown into a man. And I loved him."

Milo is invited to her brother's wedding and she's really anxious about it. Mostly because she's going to face Colton again. Colton is her brother's best friend and her childhood crush. She tried to get over him after an incident a couple of years ago, thinking that she should stop pinning over him, that he would never see her in another way other than 'Jason's little sister'.

Another embarassing scene takes over during that weekend and she decides to claim that she's dating Max, who is in fact her best friend back at college. Max agrees to save her ass and comes over to escort her at the wedding. Things get really complicated, trying to save the groom from the evil bride's claws or from his sister's clumsiness that has goal to eventually send him to the grave or at the very finest to a hospital.

"Be. The. Doughnut."

Ah, this is most likely the case of 'This is not you, this is me.' I can tell that people could really enjoy this book. It's meant to be funny with jokes and incidents that could probably cause someone to giggle or laugh. However, this was not the case with me. I thought that the author tried too hard, that it was a bad parody of events, with poor Jason getting hit repeatedly and men getting assaulted by a bunch of women or even worse the Grandma.. Was this really necessary? I cringed while reading those scenes. Poor poor guy.

I'm sorry but I thought that this book wasn't for me. Too immature and childish, I didn't feel the humour and I was repulsed by the sexual assault that was supposed to be funny. If it was written about women getting sexual assault it wouldn't be so funny, right? So, why when it's about men it's supposed to be? Honestly I don't get it, but maybe I just missed the mark. Oh well.

What I liked was the dragon slaying childhood memories, Max was also my favorite character by far and that's why I will probably be reading his book! The teasing last chapter has me intrigued.

Spearwood Academy Volume Six by A.S. Oren

Avalon has faced a lot in the last couple of weeks, and her challenges aren't going to end now. New faces make an appearance, but her Spidey sense is tingling. Is he everything he says he is? Where has Bullock disappeared too, and will she be able to find him? So many questions and enemies have come to stand up against her. Is the leadership role in her bones? Find out now in Volume Six!

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Avalon is still trying to find allies in Spearwood Academy, after her old friends got their minds wraped, being brainwashed about their relationships with her. Dante thinks he's in love with her, thinks they were having an affair and Avalon doesn't know how to keep her distance without looking suspicious that she's not the brainwashed that everyone thinks she is. She's trying to find others who are like her and once again many developments take place in this volume. (view spoiler)

"If I was meant to die now, I would have died during the trial."

Hmm.. A little bit sceptical about this one. It felt too short. Even shorter than the previous volumes. Maybe that's not true, but it was how it felt to me. I wonder if it's possible to keep the volumes a bit longer? Because this time I felt like the ending was really abrupt. I love the series and I'm curious how it's going to develop, but let's just say that this volume wasn't my favorite. I miss the boys, I miss their friendship and the bonding and the action.

Hopefully we'll see more of these things in the next Volume, because Avalon is a real kick-ass heroine! :)
