Mixing Business and Pleasure by M Skye
After his past bad relationship, twenty-nine-year-old, newly promoted, record label CEO Jackson Whitmore vows never to love again. With his best friend and vice president, Eric, at his side, Jackson's main focus is the business, until a beautiful woman, Milan Wells, waltzes into his life and is introduced as the new president. While Jackson wants to object to the decision, it becomes difficult when Milan brings forth bold and fresh ideas, catching both his and Eric's attention; for different reasons. Tensions soon arise when Milan and Eric's competitive natures collide forcing Jackson to intervene causing a rift between the once inseparable duo. With rumors of Milan's abusive relationship surfacing and Eric spiraling out of control, Jackson finds himself stepping up to protect Milan and entering an intense physical relationship. While Jackson and Milan are slowly falling for one another, Eric's jealousy erupts into a vicious quest for revenge that plunges the lovers into danger they never imagined.
I was very intrigued by the blurb of this book and thought that this would be a nice, naughty novel with lots of steamy moments in the οffice. Well, I can't say that I got what I thought I would get.
Jackson is the new CEO of the recording company & even though he thought that his old pal and vice president Eric, would become president, they both get surprised when there's a new person taking over this place, Milan.
Eric wants to win her over just to bed her , even though Milan isn't available. Jackson doesn't want to mix business with his personal life, especially after being cheated, by his ex, who had made a record deal on his company as a singer, before he found out about her unfaithful act.
Jackson & Milan make a great team and their chemistry is obvious. So obvious that Eric gets jealous and wants to get his revenge, because he feels betrayed and that Jackson always gets what he wants. Eric had always been envious of Jackson, even though he acted like a friend, he was actually a backstabbing snake on his neck.
There's a lot going on in this novel & I liked the sense of adventure , while people were plotting against Jackson & Milan, along the insecurities of them while working their way to see where they would end up, with her abusive boyfriend, Jackson's ex girlfriend etc.
I'm going to say what I didn't like in this book, but I'll add it on the spoiler section. This is strictly personal, maybe others wouldn't mind about these facts, but they didn't sit well with me and sadly they affected my rating.
**SPOILER WARNING**
Ah well. I'm going to be honest, sorry if I'll sound harsh, I don't want to, but sometimes I just can't stand a couple of things.
1.Like for example, the no protection sex thing.. Seriously? They weren't even a couple, they were having sex for the first time and they had unprotected sex.. Doesn't matter if she was on the pill.. She thought that he was a womanizer and he let him bang her without a condom. Are we for real?! It really turns me off. You must be really stupid to allow something like that.
2.Also, Eric's thirst for revenge and his jealousy and the whole plotting..He definitely didn't have a reason, I mean according to him, Jackson always had his back, he was his best friend and he felt so jealous that he would even plan a murder just to get into his face. I found his actions completely unreasonable.
3.I got really confused with the different POVs of this book. One paragraph there was Milan speaking, next Jackson, next Eric, next Angela etc. Every person had a paragraph in this book, which got me a little confused, even though I could tell who was speaking.
4.Last but not least, Angela's detailed sex scene? Why was that necessary? :S I don't get it. Yes, it was nice, but I felt like I was watching through a peep hole my aunt having sex. I was happy for her, but it felt like a filler or something.
Overall, apart from these issues, I think it was a good plotline & had potential.
